This year's ASA National Masters Championships brought out the best in Great Britain's masters swimmers. Record numbers attended the event and medals were hard to win. Oundle had four swimmers at the event this year and returned with four gold medals and one silver medal.
This year's ASA National Masters Championships brought out the best in Great Britain's masters swimmers. Record numbers attended the event and medals were hard to win. Oundle had four swimmers at the event this year and returned with four gold medals and one silver medal.
As always the meet started on the Friday afternoon with the 1500 freestyle, and Amy Mellor secured a best time of 21:50.94 for 7th place in the 30-34 age group. Nicola Latty followed this in the evening with a 4th place finish in the 40-44 100 backstroke in a masters best time.
The medals began to flow on the Saturday when Nicola Latty won the 400 IM and 100 butterfly and followed these with a silver medal in the 200 breaststroke. Susie Freeman produced strong swims in the 400 IM and 200 breaststroke for top ten finishes in both events in the 30-24 age group. Paul Davies raced in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 50 backstroke in the 25-29 age group placing 14th in the butterfly and 15th in the backstroke in the most well attended age group in the meet.
On the Sunday morning Nicola Latty won the 200 butterfly, narrowly missing the British Record. In the afternoon Nicola won the 200 backstroke while Amy Mellor managed another top ten placing in the 200 backstroke.
