Nicola Latty won gold in the 35-39 200m butterfly at the World Masters Swimming Championships in Gothenburg, retaining her title from the championships in Perth two years ago. Claudia Nunez Nunez (Argentina) won silver and Anja Hanz (Germany) won bronze.

Gothenburg, Sweden was the host city for this years World Masters Swimming Championships. The swimming took place in two venues within the city, Valhallabadet and Lundbybadet. The pool at Valhalla was a 10 lane 50m indoor pool while at Lundby there was an 8 lane 50m pool. Over 5000 swimmers from 74 countries completed over 16000 swims during the week long swimming event.
Oundle was represented by Nicola Latty who was swimming in the 35-39 age group. Nicola had a successful meet winning bronze in the 100m butterfly to add to the gold in the 200m butterfly. Nicola also placed 6th in the 200m backstroke, 400m IM and 400m freestyle events.
As always, the meet attracted former Olympians as well as those who have only been swimming for a few years. Former Olympic 200m freestyle champion Claudia Poll was present along with former World breaststoke Champion Oleg Lisogor. The oldest swimmer at the meet was 96 year old Mieko Nagaoka from Japan. She didn't take it easy though, Mieko competed in a range of events including the 800m freestyle.
