ASA Masters, Sheffield, 2009

Date: 23-25/10/2009

Once again the Oundle team travelled to Sheffield for the ASA National Short Course Championships. This year the team came away with three gold and four silver medals. Medal winners were Nicola Latty, Barry O'Brien and Nick Morgan.

On the first day of competition, Nicola Latty won gold in the 200 Butterfly for the 35-39 age group. Soon after, Barry O'Brien won silver in the 50-54 100 Breaststroke. Nick Morgan completed the Friday evening line up for Oundle. Nick swam close to his best times to finish 5th in the 35-39 100 Breaststroke and 8th in the 35-39 100 IM.

Saturday brought silver medals for Nicola Latty in the 35-39 400 Freestyle, Nick Morgan in the 35-39 200 IM and Barry O'Brien in the 50-54 200 Breaststroke. Amy Mellor had strong swims in the 200 and 400 Freestyle event but found the swims just a little too short. Earlier this month Amy completed the 10.4 mile crossing (lengthwise) of Lake Windermere.

Claire Foster and Susie Danby joined with Amy Mellor and Nicola Latty for the relays (120-160 age group). Claire and Susie demonstrated their sprinting skills with fast 50s on both the Freestyle and Medley relays. Oundle finished 7th in the 200 Medley relay and 8th in the 200 Freestyle relay.

On the final day of the meet, Nicola Latty won gold medals for both the 35-39 800 Freestyle and 400 IM, a combination not easy for anyone over the age of 25. Nick Morgan swam a masters best time in the 50 Freestyle (25.56) to finish in 8th.
